Have you considered hypnosis to help you kick your smoking habit? Well before you decide that, let’s look at the alternatives people have.
- Nicotine Patches
A Vanderbuilt study found that only 11% of people who used patches were still non-smokers 2 years later. Anthony Warren from breathesimple.com says, “The success rate with nicotine patches is exceedingly low. In fact the success rate for any withdrawal protocol is low.” According to drugs.com, the side effects of nicotine are:
- Blurred vision
- pounding in the ears
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- hives, itching, rash, redness, or swelling of the skin
- Mouth sores, blisters, or irritation
- nausea or vomiting
- sore throat
- Acid or sour stomach
- mouth, tooth, jaw, or neck pain
- problems with teeth
- unusual tiredness or weakness
Sounds pretty extreme, doesn’t it? And, sadly, the problems that smokers have that make them want to light up a cigarette ISN”T that they don’t have enough nicotine in their body. If that were actually the problem, 100% of people would become nonsmokers if they had the “replacement” of a nicotine patch. But the facts don’t support that assumption. It should be unacceptable that the side effects are actually worse than the side effects of the nicotine.
Q: So what is the reason people would risk cancer, heart attacks, stroke, etc., and light up again and again?
A: Because for a brief few minutes, it is relaxing to smoke. Actually, it’s the deep breathing smokers do that accomplishes most of the actual physical relaxation… but the point is that it sure isn’t the cigarette.
When you smoke, you usually stop or step away from the stressful thing you’re doing, “decide” to take a break or reduce your tension, physically walk around, probably go outside, definitely breathe deeply, with out with the cigarette because you’re “free” for a few minutes and calming down. Then you have a 10 minute break – a “time out” form the hassle or pressure, and ALL of those things are relaxing… you just happened to be smoking when you did most of them.
